Heretaunga is a southern suburb of Upper Hutt, renowned for its location, and boasting some of Upper Hutt’s most prestigious properties, particularly those surrounding the Royal Wellington Golf Club. Properties that come up for sale along that “The Golden Mile” do not last long.
Heretaunga is bordered by Trentham Memorial Park at the Northern side – an expansive park featuring sports grounds, native bush reserves, recreation clubs and a children’s playground – the Hutt River Trail to the West, and Silverstream to the South and East.
This suburb takes its name from a Hawkes Bay district that early European settlers in the Hutt Valley used to name the nearby Hutt River.
Sports facilities include the Royal Wellington Golf Club which was founded in 1895 and is one of New Zealand’s most beautiful and historic golf courses.
The suburb is very well connected to public transport services, including bus and train services to Wellington and the Hutt Valley. The suburb has its own train station on the Hutt Valley line, offering hourly services throughout the day, seven days a week.
Heretaunga offers close proximity to two of the regions best private boys schools, Hutt International Boys School and St Patricks College Silverstream. It is also home to two play-centres, a kindergarten, and St Brendan’s Primary School.
Heretaunga has its own shopping village with a dairy, fish and chip shop, and antique store, and is also close to the more substantial Silverstream shopping village which offers a wide range of goods and services including a recently renovated New World supermarket.
